Rotary Bengaluru East members initiative on Morning Nutrition in Govt. School, 1st July 2022

Rotary Bengaluru East members initiative on Morning Nutrition in Govt. School, 1st July 2022

July 03rd, 2022

From 1st July 2022, Rotary members of Bengaluru east, under the leadership of their President Rtn Shivkumar, who is also DLRWA Secretary, in association with Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust have started distribution of SaiSure multi nutrient health mix along with milk to Govt. High School children in Domlur. About 140 children in the school will be provided SaiSure for five days a week from Monday to Friday. Annapoorna Trust advocates the 3S principle, an active role of Sarkara (govt.), Samstha (organizations) and Samaja (society and individuals), in tackling large-scale problems in the country. SaiSure is an example of Annapoorna Trust adding value to the Ksheera Bhagya scheme of Government of Karnataka, where the government provides milk to children, while Annapoorna Trust adds the nutritional element in the form of the health mix.

This health mix ensures that the children especially from the underprivileged sections of our society, get 50% of the Recommended Daily Allowance ensuring vital supplements to their bodies and minds. The health mix contains the macro and the micronutrients required for overall development, growth, cognition, and strong immunity. We look forward for continued association with Rotary Club who also have a common desire in making the world a better place to live.

Nutrition Intervention for SAM & MAM children in collaboration with Persistent Foundation – Karnataka – 30th June 2022

Nutrition Intervention for SAM & MAM children in collaboration with Persistent Foundation – Karnataka – 30th June 2022

July 2nd, 2022

Annapoorna Trust in collaboration with Persistent Foundation have initiated Nutrition Intervention for SAM & MAM children in Bagepalli & Gowribidanur taluks of Chikkaballapur district in Karnataka. SaiSure multi nutrient health mix would be provided to 508 children for overall development & growth.

Stunting or low height for age is a sign of chronic undernutrition. 35% children under the age of five in Karnataka are stunted i.e., too short for their age, which indicates that they have been undernourished for some time, just one per cent less than the national average of 36%. Likewise, One-fifth of children are wasted, or too thin for their height, which may result from inadequate recent food intake or a recent illness causing weight loss. This is as per the National Family Health Survey – 5 (NFHS) released on 2019-20. Kids born to thin mothers are stunted and the prevalence of stunting is higher in rural areas than urban areas.

Despite state government having schemes to tackle malnutrition, much is to be done. Annapoorna Trust & Persistent foundation have been at the forefront in joining hands with the state government for enabling a healthier society, especially in the rural areas.
