National Nutrition Month is being celebrated across the country in the month of September to mark the fight against malnutrition. Various programmes to spread awareness on issues related to malnutrition like stunting, under-nutrition, anaemia and low birth weight in children are organized across the country. POSHAN Abhiyaan – National Nutrition Mission, was launched by the government to achieve improvement in nutritional status of children, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers. 

 

 

Annapoorna Trust with its vision of, Let No Child Go to School Hungry Ever, continues to address the nutrition needs at various rural hinterlands of India, aligning with the theme of National Nutrition Month.

A total of 620 children in 9 different schools of Karimnagar district will receive ‘Raagi Cereals Health Mix’ as their morning nutrition. This Health drink contains significant amounts of vitamin C and E. It is also high on B complex vitamins thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, iron, and phosphorus. It is considered one of the best foods for growing children.

The importance of natural immunity has become more pronounced in the post-Covid-era and nutrition is its main component. In order to raise awareness about the need for adequate nutrition in diet, India observes ‘National Nutrition Month’ in the month of September. A healthy diet is a mainstay for maintaining a healthy body in long run and in turn giving rise to good quality of life. The latest National Family Health Survey shows high levels of malnutrition and anemia amongst mainly children, adolescent girls, pregnant women. Annapoorna Trust continues to address the nutrition needs at various rural hinterlands of India with its mission of, ‘Let No Child Go to School Hungry, Ever.’

Annapoorna Trust introduces ‘Raagi Cereals Health Mix’ to 25,500 government school-going children across 379 schools in Sarvepalli constituency of Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh. Raagi is considered one of the most nutritious cereals and helps maintain good health. An excellent source of calcium, protein, magnesium, iron, phosphorus and rich source of vitamin C and E, high in B complex vitamins – thiamine, riboflavin, niacin and folic acid, it is extremely beneficial for growing children.

 

The launch event held on 13th September 2022 was attended by district officials and Mandal Education Officers. Annapoorna Trust extends its gratitude for the complete support provided by Sri Kakani Govardhan Reddy (Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture, Cooperation and Marketing & MLA of Sarvepalli constituency). In the event, in his speech, he expressed his delight for the service rendered by Annapoorna Trust in providing Morning Nutrition to all 25,500 children in 5 mandals of Sarvepalli constituency. He further explained that Raagi is rich in proteins and the various amino acids present in it, work as a natural relaxant which is very useful for children, especially from marginalised section of society, who come to school early in the morning. He also said the government is eager to support this mission on Nutrition undertaken by Annapoorna Trust.

‘National Nutrition Month’ is observed in the month of September every year to create awareness about good nutrition and health, and its importance in human lives. The latest National Family Health Survey shows high levels of malnutrition and anaemia amongst children below five years. Annapoorna Trust continues to address the nutrition needs at various rural hinterlands of India with a mission, ‘Let No Child Go to School Hungry Ever.’

With the initiative of Annapoorna Trust, 19,000 government school-going children in Giddalur constituency of Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh will receive ‘Raagi Cereals Health drink.’ Ragi is considered one of the most nutritious cereals and helps maintain good health. An excellent source of calcium, protein, magnesium, iron, phosphorus and rich source of vitamin C and E, high in B complex vitamins – thiamine, riboflavin, niacin and folic acid, it is extremely beneficial for growing children.

 

Easy to prepare and tasty to drink, this tasty mix is filled with nutrients and has received positive feedback from teachers, cooks and the children as well. 10 gms of this health mix along with 5 gms of jaggery is mixed in boiling water to make a 150ml/200ml health drink.

From August 2022, Universal Sompo General Insurance Company have joined hands with Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust in providing morning nutrition to 377 school-going children in 5 govt schools across 4 villages in Murtizapur taluk of Akola district.

 

 

Annapoorna Morning Nutrition Program started in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra in April 2022. Vidarbha is less economically prosperous when compared to other regions of Maharashtra and has hot humid climate with considerable poverty & malnutrition. On 04 Apr 2022, SaiSure multi nutrient health mix was launched in Murtizapur by Mr. Bacchu Babarao Kadu – state minister of Education. With relevant permissions from Government for 5 districts in Vidarbha region, morning nutrition has started in Akola for 1050 children and 250 children in Amravathi. Very soon, the programme will start in the remaining 3 districts – Buldhana, Yavatmal & Washim as well.

As part of relaunch of the Morning Nutrition Program in various districts of Telangana post COVID, a launch event was organized at Anantharam, Jagtial district in Telangana on 29th August 2022 at MPUPS School. 2500 children across 25 govt. schools will receive Ragi Java (Ragi malt) drink with jaggery on alternate days in this region.

 

 

Ragi is considered one of the most nutritious cereals and helps maintain good health. An excellent source of calcium, protein and rich source of vitamins, it is extremely beneficial for growing children.

In the event, MEO Smt. Gayatri addressed the gathering by saying she was inspired by Sathya Sai Baba to serve the society and she had served SaiSure to school children at Thakkalapalli before the COVID pandemic while working there. She further went on to motivate the children to inculcate values as a priority, to serve the society. Mr. Dasharath Reddy – HM of Velgonda MPPS brought in requests from many other HMs to start Morning Nutrition in their respective schools as well. He was a Sai youth earlier who used to participate in Grama seva activities with his family in those days. Now he is an active Sai Vrinda volunteer since 2015.

This is a part of the relaunch of Morning Nutrition Program in various districts of Telangana, initiated on 3rd August 2022 in Bhuvanagiri district in the presence of P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, Hon’ble Education Minister.

 

Children are the future of our nation, and it is our responsibility as a society to give them equal opportunities to grow into healthy adults. But with child malnutrition, a haunting reality for us, volunteers of Annapoorna Trust will not stop until no child goes to school hungry, ever!

On 20th August 2022, Morning Nutrition program was launched in Zilpi village of Dharni Taluk, Amravathi district, Maharashtra. With relevant permissions from Government for 5 districts in Vidarbha region, morning nutrition has started in Akola and Amravathi. Very soon, the programme will start in the remaining 3 districts – Buldhana, Yavatmal & Washim as well.

The launch event took place in Zilla Parishad Higher Primary School in the presence of Mr. Rajkumar Patel – MLA Melghat, Mr. Rohit Patel – Ex Chairman, Mr. Suresh Raypure – Headmaster, Thok – Asst. Headmaster, Govt. Annapoorna Breakfast program has been restarted in a rotary-aided school, Thiruvengadam Nagar Educational Society School in Ambattur, Chennai. Prior to COVID pandemic, Annapoorna Trust with Dani Rasa Foundation were providing morning nutrition to this school.

 

Different varieties of breakfast are prepared on all weekdays in the centralized kitchen from where breakfast is brought and served. The centralized kitchen is a full-fledged kitchen in Chennai, inaugurated in November 2019 in collaboration with Dani Rasa Foundation, for preparation of breakfast for needy government school-going children. More than 450 children from this school will receive hot nutritious breakfast every day.

On 3rd August 2022, Morning Nutrition Program was relaunched in Yadadri Bhongir, Siddipet, Sircilla, Karimnagar, Jagatial, Jangaon, Adilabad, Mehaboob Nagar, Nizamabad, Medchal, Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad districts of Telangana. With the relevant permission letters from various district officials this program has been restarted for close to 37000 govt. school children in 344 schools.

The relaunch event took place in ZHPS Bibinagar, Yadadri Bhongir district in Telangana in the presence of Chief Guest – Smt. P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, Hon’ble Education Minister, Telangana; Sri Pailla Shekar Reddy – Hon’ble MLA, Bhongir Constituency, Telangana; Mr. Sandeep Reddy Alimineti – Zilla Parishad Chairperson for Yadadri Bhuvanagiri District; Mr. Alimineti Krishna Reddy – MLC, TRS, Bhongir, Yadadri – Bhuvanagiri, Telangana; Mr. Alugubelli Narsi Reddy – MLC, Nalgonda, Telangana, Independent; Smt. Pamela Satpathy, IAS – Yadadri Bhongir Collector, Collector and District Magistrate; Sri Deepak Tiwari IAS – Additional Collector Local Bodies; Mr. Yarkala Sudhakar Goud – MPP, Yadadri Bhongir; Mrs. Goli Pranitha Pingal Reddy – ZPTC, Bibinagar; Mr. K Narayan Reddy – DEO Yadadri, Bhuvanagiri; MEO Mr. Naga Vardhan Reddy; Mr Raja Reddy – Headmaster. Mr. Pradeep Kumar – Regional Head and Mr Dhananjay Rao Ejapu – Manager in Marketing and Digital communication and volunteers were present representing Annapoorna Trust.  

In the event, Smt. P. Sabitha Indra Reddy – Hon’ble Education Minister of Telangana began her speech by saying, “Firstly, I thank Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust for undertaking service activities in the state of Telangana.” She then went on to say that there had been a substantial progress in all the streams, especially in the education sector, since the last 8 years in the state, which she said had always been close to her heart since only children from weaker sections of society came to Government schools. “Our Honourable Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao did everything possible during the COVID pandemic for the benefit of children in spite of many challenges,” she said. Enabling the children to learn through Doordarshan – Prasar Bharati in the initial period, she mentioned that after COVID subsided, the state encouraged the children to attend school free of any fear of the pandemic. She also appreciated the teachers and said that they led from the front by setting themselves as examples and due to all these efforts, Telangana was placed first in Digital Enabled Teaching.

On August 1st, 2022, Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust in association with Sopra Steria launched SaiSure Morning Nutrition Program for 230 rural students at St. Theresa Higher Primary School, T C Palya in Bangalore.

 

Sopra Steria is a Paris-based European Tech leader, with its presence in nearly 30 countries, is recognized for its consulting, digital services, and software development. In India, Sopra Steria’s Corporate Responsibility is managed under the banner of Yogdaan”- Sopra Steria India CSR Initiativefocusing on education, healthcare, sanitation, skill development, community services and environment.

The launch event was inaugurated by dignitaries – Ms. Gayathri Mohan, CSR Head of Sopra Steria, the employees from Sopra Steria; Father Prashanth, Sister Lucy and staff from St. Theresa Higher Primary School; Management and Operations Team from Annapoorna Trust represented by Ashish Bhardwaj, Sai Bhaskar & Anil Lingayat.
